I've bought a new machine with Vista Business 64bit on it and installed SS, but when I copy a preset file into the directory as usual nothing happens.
I can not select the preset, and if I try to save a new preset nothing happens either.
What do I do?

I had this problem the other day.

Make sure that the DAT files are NOT read-only.

the preset works in vista, somehow i set the vista into best performance appearance (classic one) and all of preset is visible now.
I think classic appearance is the best after all

I've got Vista 32bit and I use SS 1.3 (Optimod preset). Try to run winamp (or the standalone application) with elevated permissions. Right click on the shortcut and Run as administrator and I think you'll get to the bottom of it. It worked in the 32bit edition, so i guess it should also work in the 64bit one. Try it and give a feedback Smiley

Hi there

Basically you need to you into Control Panel > User Accounts and Family > User Accounts (click the heading) > Turn user account control on or off.

Uncheck the box that is labelled "Use User account control".

Vista doesn't let Winamp alter or even read the .dat files that are needed to loads the presets.

Hope this helps.

Find Winamp.exe (probably in Windows/Program Files/Winamp or Windows/Program Files (x86)/Winamp) and right click on it.  Select "Properties" and under "Compatibility" check "Run this program as an administrator" under "Privilege Level".   That will allow read-write access to the SS presets under Vista and Windows 7.
